Progress with reloading skills and a desire to pamper my remaining physical condition causes me to pursue a rifle rest with capabilities beyond my sand bag rests for 45-70 loads fired from the bench. My bag rests are OK when using low pressure cast loads but aren't high enough for me to shoot naturally. I could take a bunch of sandbags but hate the thought of lugging all that weight back and forth just to elevate my shooting rest. Then there is still the recoil factor (for my shoulder) of LE level loads to contend with.

I've focused on Caldwell models and am having a tough time wrestling with the choice between the Caldwell Lead Sled Plus and Caldwell Lead Sled DFT. The online retailer customer reviews have failed to give me a reason to buy the DFT and spend about $70 more than the Plus version. Both are on sale at Natchez Shooters Supplies this month ($99/$169).

For any of my fellow MO members who can offer some personal insight, I own only one bolt gun (1936 era Rem 512 model 22 rifle) and no removable magazine fed rifles at all. There are no intentions to obtain any of those either so under-rifle clearance is a non-issue The rest would be used primarily as recoil reducer and rest for my 1895CB and wife's 1895G. It would be used primarily as a rest only for my Rossi M92 45LC and wife's 1894C.

Anyone have any good reasons to choose either one over the other?
